Ballito at a glance
BALLITO is the heart of the Dolphin Coast and is encompassed by waving fields of sugar cane and flanked by the turquoise, warm Indian Ocean. The town was proclaimed a township in 1954 and reached Borough status in 1986. From the stories we hear, the name Ballito means “little ball”. It is well known for it’s superb , safe, netted beaches, and is a favourite holiday destination. Ballito’s original friendly village atmosphere still lives today even though it is on it’s way to becoming a mini metropolis. The road system, especially the entrance into Ballito has been upgraded and the latest news is the expansion of the existing Ballito Junction. This +-9000sqm shopping centre will become a +-60 000sqm by 2017. Despite the expansion of our once little village, Ballito is still a welcome haven from the fast pace of city life and offers a lifestyle to be envied. King Shaka International Airport, only 15 mins away from Ballito and the surrounding areas is within everyone’s east reach which bodes well for the ever increasing retail and commercial nodes that have emerged in the past 2-3- years.
